Brief n°15 : Strategic positioning study for the Electrical, Electronics and Electrical Home Appliances Industries (EEEAI)

    The study provides a diagnostic of the EEEAI sector, benchmarking comparison to 4 reference countries, and a development strategy for the future.
    At the national level the EEEAI sector is comprised of 262 enterprises with 10 or more employees, employing a total of 36 500 persons. Some 130 units are totally exporting.
    In 2001, production output value for the sector reached 1 500 MDT. The growth rate for the sector averages 16% per year.
    The electrical branch dominates the sector, representing 69% of sector production.
    Benchmarking for the sector shows a comfortable rate of export growth for the French and Italian markets despite certain inefficiencies identified at the level of production management and marketing.
    The study has provided the basis for the elaboration of the major axis for development of the branch to be realized by 2007: the principal objectives to be reached, as well as a promotional plan. In addition, the study provides several detailed project proposals for opportunities in the branch.

Brief n°14 : Strategic Positioning Study of the Computer and Information Technologies branche

    The study provides a diagnostic of the branch at the national level and at the international level through benchmarking against 4 reference countries and a development strategy .
    In Tunisia, the branch is comprised of 345 enterprises, the majority of which are small enterprises and provides employment to an estimated 6650 technical personnel. Of the total number of enterprises in the branch, 45 computer engineering and information technologies service companies have 10 or more employees. The production growth rate for the branch is superior to the GDP growth rate.
    The analysis of the different indicators of the benchmarking table shows that the branch is competitive in terms of the man hour cost, but that the technical level of the computer engineering service companies in Tunisia lags behind that of the international standard.
    The study has provided the basis for the elaboration of the major axis for future development for the branch: the objectives to be realized by 2007 and the actions required to remedy the gap between the local technical competence and international standards. In addition, the study provides several detailed project proposals for the major ground-level opportunities in the branch.
